I called the Wetlands and WIldlife Care Center to see how my friend was doing. Apparently he is doing quite well. He is in with the other brown pelicans and feeding nicely on the fish there. I am sure he will be released within a couple of days. It was nice to have good news like that. He is a young pelican and it is good to see he has a future.
It is very easy. If you see an injured bird you can call the center or dial 411 and ask information for the number. If you can not get a hold of someone then you can go to the center. (they are usually very busy). They can then help assist in getting the bird back to the center. Pelicans for instance have very sharp (and long) beaks. They can give quite a paper cut if you are not careful. Birds, like the pelican, can have a strong odor and can have sand lice so you may want some assistance with these animals. It is worth the effort and my friend is a testimont to their hard work at the center.
