Red egret dancing for food

The first image of the red egret during feeding time at the wetlands. The red egret will do through what looks like a dance to herd the food. The red egret flaps his wings and hops around and herds the fish and other crab like things into shallow waters.

Since this article is about the red egret and how rare it is to have two of these beautiful birds at the Bolsa Chica wetlands. I will give a bit of background on this rare bird. It is believed that the pair came up from Baja California about 2 to 3 years ago now. They reside permantely in the Bolsa Chica wetland area. It is not known if the pair is a male female or not. The egrets are relatively isloated birds. They will feed together and several pairs will use the same tree for nesting. They do not seem to have a pairing relationship outside of this though. The feeding is probably just proximaty and when one feeds then more will follow.

These images are not very good. The red egret is a bit harder to get good images of just because there are only two of them and the fact that they seem a bit more skidish then there smaller white cousin. The photographs of the red egret are to show the dancing nature of this beautiful bird. There are more images of the red egret at naturAimages and I will be putting some better images up at Nature Photography with a Purpose images
